TGiven the current transformations and predicted dynamics of the media sphere, the programme primarily aims to provide the graduate with the following: - sufficient knowledge facilitating both the continuation of studies in a follow-up master's programme in related fields and employment on labour market immediately after graduation; - sufficient breadth of universal learning and competences, which facilitate subsequent adaptation on the current labour market; - special competences developed during the programme, allowing deeper specialization in several areas, both professional-technical and thematic; these provide the graduate with an advantage on labour market The breadth of such requirements entails higher demands on the programme to prepare its graduates for the profession. Their fulfilment is ensured through interconnectedness on three basic levels: - a wide general knowledge base corresponding to university-level education, covering social sciences and humanities (sociology, psychology, politics, history, law etc.) and accenting also current issues (political system of the Czech Republic, political geography, environmentalism etc.); - general journalistic competence (hard news, soft news) and journalistic thematic specialization (political, cultural, economic, etc.), supported by courses introducing relevant issues (political science, economics, natural sciences, aesthetics and art history, healthcare). - professional journalistic competences (photojournalism, radio journalism, television journalism, etc.) Therefore, the curriculum builds on several lines, whose levels gradually follow up on each other, deepening and developing the knowledge acquired. The general education component provides students with basic knowledge from fields reflecting different areas of social life: political science, economics, law, sociology, psychology, linguistics, political geography, history (of Central Europe), ecology and environmentalism, natural sciences, health and epidemiology, criminology, philosophy, logic, aesthetics, etc. These courses are partly required, partly elective - after completing the necessary background, students select the courses to supplement their general education with other areas applicable in practice in relation to their specialization. These courses enable students to consistently develop thematic specializations, namely to specialize in political, economic, cultural, scientific and health-social journalism. The composition of these courses (together with required courses) also offers a sufficient educational potential, which prepares the student for follow-up Master's programme. Practical courses are focused on training specific practical skills applicable in the field, structured according to individual media activities. The basic courses in hard news and soft news are followed by courses developing the specializations, namely practical training and related workshops of radio, television, written and online journalism, photojournalism and DTP. In addition to this "technically" motivated specializations, the student also specializes "thematically" in cultural, economic, political, scientific, sports and health-social journalism. In the professional area, the student acquires basic knowledge about the media structure, sources of information incl. research methods, the legal and ethical framework of journalism, etc. Communicative competences needed in the development of various journalistic communications are also developed and strengthened. The programme likewise entails different forms of training: practical placements, specialized excursions etc. In addition, the programme is designed with regard to student autonomy and indirect forms of learning - Moodle e-learning support for courses and emphasis on ICT (e.g. a presentation web portal publishing the outputs of practical courses). Students are also required to study at least two foreign languages.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

A student who has completed the bachelor's degree in Journalism will have acquired basic knowledge, skills, and competencies related to a career in journalism regardless of the specific type of media, as well as specialized (technical and professional) competencies for employment in a particular type of media (print, TV, radio, online media ) at a specific position (reporter, editor, moderator, etc., but also graphic designer, photographer, proofreader, etc.), or in one of the core subject areas of media production (culture, economics, politics, science, sports, and health and social issues). The programme prepares for employment in both the private and public sectors. The general education component of the discipline prepares students for a follow-up master programme, especially in humanities or social sciences.
