Course content
1st Sociology as a science of society: the definition, legitimacy, relationship to practice. 2nd The emergence of sociology: the traditional society, modernization, new problems. 3rd Social behavior: socialization, Enculturation, institutions, groups, control. 4th Social behavior: Marx, Durkheim, Weber, Schutz, Goffman, Habermas. 5th Social action: social capital, social mobility, current trends. 6th Social system: paradigmatic approaches - consensus, conflict, interpretation. 7th Social system: structure, functions, processes, environment, types of systems. 8th Social organizations as social systems: type theories and the possibility of recovery. 9th Social organization: physical, technological, social and cultural structure. 10th Research: research situation, strategies, methods, procedures, techniques. 11th Quantitative research: operacionalizace, measurement, hypothesis, explanace. 12th Qualitative research: language, comprehension, interpretation, triangulation.

Learning outcomes
The aim of discipline is to acquaint students with basic sociological concepts. Their mastery is a prerequisite for a deeper understanding of some other theoretical concepts, particularly in the theory of mass communication. Emphasis will be placed on the exact use of technical terminology.
The student will be acquainted with the basic sociological concepts primarily in the framework of masmedia communication

Credit: writing an essay (7 to 10 000 characters) Colloquium: verify theoretical knowledge under the thematic headings of the course.
