Course content
|
1) Public and private information sources. Verification of information and evaluation. How to get ahead of other journalists. 2) Working with confidential sources. Tactics in obtaining information ethics. 3) Legal work environment of an investigative journalist. 4) From an anonymous phone call to a television report. Analysis of test cases. 5) Work on their own investigative reports.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce to the students the techniques of obtaining information from both public as well as secred sources. Individual practical exercises explain the ways of verifying the information, evaluate the relevance of the data and their correct interpretation. The seminar emphasizes the high degree of independent work and an awareness of personal responsibility in the work of an investigative journalist.
Students finishing the course will have acquired these competences: a) to consult, analyze and interpret critically information and source material, including foreign source material. b) to know the journalistically relevant search strategies, also depending on the medium (printed, audiovisual, new media. c) to be familiar with national current affairs and to use this knowledge in a journalistically sound manner. d) to be able to approach complex issues appropriately.

Student performance
Required knowledge and skills: - To write independently journalism texts. - Working with genres standardly used nationwide in the Czech media (printed newspapers, television, radio). Credit: - active and creative work in the seminar - complete all assigned subtasks in time - respect for the portal "Moodle" as an the environment for submitting tasks and as well as the information environment for the reporting deadlines , assigning tasks and distribution of materials - submitting of three of its own news and current affairs of three texts published in a domestic printed periodicals - Participation in the seminar Colloquium: Presentation of assigned homeworks.
