1. Biochemistry in dental medicine. Bioenergetics. Localization of biochemical processes in organism. 2. Metabolic processes in the cell and in organelles. Systems of membrane transport. 3. Enzymes. Mechanism of enzyme catalysis. Cofactors/Coenzymes. Enzyme activity, regulation. 4. Overview of the saccharide metabolism in the cell. Metabolism of saccharides in oral cavity. Gluconeogenesis, pentose cycle, metabolism of glycogene. 5. Overview of lipid metabolism. Metabolism of triacylglycerols and fatty acids. Ketogenesis. 6. Proteolysis, overview of amino acid catabolism, biogenic amines, formation of urea. 7. Biochemical processes in gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Utilization of basic nutrients, resorption, biochemistry of mikrobial flora. Influence of diet on oral health.

Výstupy z učení
|
The aim of the subject is to explain theoretical principles of biochemistry and regulation mechanisms of basic metabolic pathways in eukaryotic cells. The emphasis is given on metabolic reaction in digestive organs and connective tissues, on the biochemistry of saliva and on the effect of diet on selected metabolic processes.
Students will acquire an overview of basic metabolic processes occurring in the body, including regulations. They will acquire basic knowledge required for interpretation of biochemical reactions in the buccal cavity and they will learn about the functions of saliva and about the causes of carries. From practical aspect, students will be able to carry out simple biochemical analyses including interpretation of results.
