Course content
1. Presocratic philosophy I. Beginnigs of philosophy. Milesian school. Pythagoras. 2. Presocratic philosophy II.: Heraclitus. Parmenides. 3. Presocratic philosophy III.: Atomists. Empedocles. Anaxagoras. 4. Sophists, Socrates. 5. Plato. 6. Aristotle. 7. Stoics, Epicureism, Sceptics. 8. Neoplatonism. 9. Christian philosophy: Augustinus. Boëthius. Dionysios Pseudo - Areopagita. Jan Scotus Eriugena. 10. Medieval philosophy. Anselm of Canterbury. Pierre Abaelard. Albertus Magnus a Thomas Aquinas. Bonaventure, Jan Duns Scotus. William Ockham. 11. Renaissace philosophy: Petrarch, Valla, Cusanus, Ficino, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola. Renaissance Aristotelianism. 12. Early Modern Philosophy: Copernicus, Giordano Bruno, methodology, emergence of modern philosophy and science.

Learning outcomes
The program provides students from different fields of studies with general knowledge of the history of philosophy from its beginnings to modern times.
Students have a general insight into philosophical problems and the style of philosohical thought of the periods from early Greek to Early modern times, are able to demarcate a status of philosophy within the system of sciences, and are acquainted with basic philosophical terminology. Students can use their knowledge and skills within their own fields of studies.
Prerequisites
Without preliminary preconditions. Necessary to enrol together with a course History of Philosophy II.
