Learning outcomes

Translation seminar 1 is designed for students of the B.A. program as an introduction to the translation practice from Japanese to Czech and also to theoretical issues of translation. During the seminars students get acquainted with various styles and their characteristics and learn basic translation techniques. Attention is paid to the preservation of functional equivalence and to pragmatic aspects in the translation.
Students have learnt to analyze in detail and interpret a Japanese text and solve basic problems concerning the translation from Japanese to Czech. They know various language styles and their specifics both in Czech and Japanese.

Prerequisites

The course is offered to Japanese philology students and Japanese for Economic practice students.

Assessment methods and criteria

Student performance
- Preparation for classes, class-work (max. 3 absences), - Submission of all assigned translations - Submission of all translations after final revision - Final translation (2 pages)
