Learning outcomes
|
Introduction of basic terms of materials science, internal structure of metal materials and identification of phases in metal systems. To give an overview of technical iron alloys, their structure, properties and basic method of their modification. To show the overview of non-ferrous and selected non-metal technical materials.
Knowledge. Overview knowledge of kinds of technical materials and their categorization with the focus on ferrous materials. Describe the internal structure of metals and its impact on material properties. Know failures of crystalline lattices. Describe the process of solidification of binary alloys with different solubility of components in the solid state. Describe the process of solidification of steels and cast irons. Differentiate between phases in metal systems and describe the influence of their presence on mechanical properties of the materials. Present basic methods of heat treatment of metals. Show the overview knowledge about non-ferrous and selected non-metal materials and their use.
