Course content
|
Active participation and a presentation (max. 15 pages) followed by a class discussion about the content, methodological and formal questions regarding the presented text is required. 1. Citations, paraphrases and the actual text based on studying and processing the literature. The issue of the scientific contribution of the compilation. Diploma thesis as a connection of thorough heuristics and intellectual performance. 2. Bibliographic references and standards. 3. Scientific hypothesis and its verification. Propositions of the processed topic. 4. The course of the defence, the technique of own performance in front of the committee for the defence. 5. Projects of the diploma thesis in Music Theory 1 (approx. 5 standard pages) followed by a class discussion about the content, methodological and formal questions regarding the presented text. 6. Projects of the diploma thesis in Musical Historiography 1 (approx. 5 standard pages) followed by a class discussion about the content, methodological and formal questions regarding the presented text. 7. Projects of the diploma thesis in Musical Aesthetics or other discipline of Musicology 1 (approx. 5 standard pages) followed by a class discussion about the content, methodological and formal questions regarding the presented text. 8. Projects of the diploma thesis in Regional Science 1 (approx. 5 standard pages) followed by a class discussion about the content, methodological and formal questions regarding the presented text. 9. Ethics of scientific work. Ethical Code. Plagiarism in academic publishing activity. Authorship and co-authorship of a scientific text. Cooperation with a supervisor. Preferences in scientific research on music. 10. Editor and text.

Learning outcomes
|
Selection of methods and structure of a written work, ability to identify a suitable method to process qualification works, ability to lead a discussion about methodology and content of a written work. 1. Student has knowledge of music history and theory from the selected thematic field of the diploma thesis. 2. Student is able to work with literature he studied and is able to evaluate the preserved resources related to the selected thematic field of the diploma thesis. 3. Student is an expert within the thematic field defined by the diploma thesis.

Prerequisites
|
Student is familiar with the general issue related to the processing of the diploma thesis and with the standards required by the publication Rukověť autora diplomky (2009) by Helena Kubátová.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary)
Active participation (15 pages long text) and a discussion about the work preparation, active participation during semester in the seminar. 1. An outline of the Preamble or the Introduction of the diploma thesis (2-4 standard pages). 2. One chapter (draft) from the diploma thesis (approx. 5 standard pages). 3. A hypothetical Conclusion of the diploma thesis (1-2 standard pages).
