The course develops knowledge from Mass Communication I and applies it in the area of applied ethics. The course provides an introduction to the theoretical and methodological issues of media ethics and shows the possibilities of solving them using concrete material from contemporary Czech and foreign journalism, documentary and fiction. Students will learn about the foundations of normative theories of media and public sphere theories and their criticism, with a special emphasis on the new paradigm of media ethics emerging since the 1980s - dialogical ethics, ethics of care, global humanitarianism.
Students will be able to use the terminology and basic concepts of mass communication studies adequately when critically assessing the phenomena associated with mass communication and their ethical dimension.
