Learning outcomes
|
The goal of the course is to explore the history not only of (Czech) nobility in the 19th and the 20th centuries with the aim to understand the contemporary "myth" of nobility as it is held in Czech collective memory. Values and identity of nobility are the crucial matters for the knowledge of nobility collective memory as it was developped since the establishment of civil society and during the 20th century. The other parts of this memory are also contflicts of nobility and citiziens, a specific lifestyle of nobility ans its symbolical capital. Miliestones and possibilities of lifestories, memoirs and biographies will be examined at a theoretical and practical level and show another mirror to the myth of nobility. HF

Prerequisites

Knowledge of 19th and 20th centuries history at the level of state bachelor exam. Passive knowledge of German and English, reading of kurrent. HF
