A textual analysis of preselected traveller's diaries.

Learning outcomes
The Early modern period saw the rise of both a modern tourism and a rudimentary form of a tourist industry. As a result the "literary genre" of traveller diaries experienced an unprecedented expansion. The seminar will centre upon the analysis of traveller's records in the cultural, confessional and political context of early modern Europe.
students will get familiar with a traveller diary as a highly specific genre of early modern culture and literature.

ability of textual analysis, a basic knowledge of a cultural history of early modern Europe
