Course content
The classes deal with an analysis of catholic modernism as a reforming movement aiming to rechristianise the modern Czech society affected by the process of secularisation. The main target is on explaining the reasons of the catholic modernism in a wider European context of the second half of the 19th century. Appart from describing the activities of the modernists and their program it traces their impact on the first Czechoslovak republic (Czechoslovak church, Orthodox church). It covers the period between 1848 and 1938. PZ

Learning outcomes
