Course content |
The seminar covers the following topics: 1) Czechoslovakia (March events of 1919, events of 1938) 2) Nazi Germany as the neighbor of the Czechoslovak Republic (espionage on the territory of the Czechoslovak Republic, Sudeten Germans, expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia) 3) Hungary (Republic of Hungary 1919, occupation of Subcarpathian Russia 1938-39) 4) Austria (Dollfuss and Schuschnigg régime, Austrians in the anti-Nazi resistance) 5) Poland (Polish-Soviet War, bench ghetto, Czech-Polish cooperation in exile in the Great Britain, Warsaw uprising) 6) Romania (Little Entente, participation of the Romanian army in the liberation of Czechoslovakia) 7) Civil War in Spain 1936-1939 (Czechoslovaks in the international brigades) 8) Slovak Republic 1939-1945 and its political representatives (Tiso, Čatloš) after the war 9) USSR (Katyn massacres, Baltic republics, Ukraine - Volyn 1943) 10) France (French military mission and military cooperation, Czechoslovak colonies in France) 11) The year 1948 in context (the "victorious February", the first Berlin Crisis, the First Arab-Israeli war) 12) Discussed topics in film Recommended literature (in Czech): LUKEŠ, Igor: Československo mezi Stalinem a Hitlerem: Benešova cesta k Mnichovu. Learning outcomes |
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the key events and processes of Central European history of the first half of the 20th century and to develop their presentation skills.
Students will gain insight into the historical development of the Czech lands and their neighbouring countries in the first half of 20th century and familiarise themselves with key bibliography and sources in this field. |

Knowledge of the 20th century history of Czechoslovakia.
