Course content
Englishmen and foreigners: a theoretical introduction Grand tour Bohemian lands from the perspective of English travellers Theatre and protestant propaganda Englishmen and Jews Film seminar Englishmen and Islam The Irish, English, Scottish and Welsh The Great Britain and USA

Lecture, Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming), Activating (Simulations, Games, Dramatization)
Learning outcomes
The course deals with relations of Englishmen and foreigners in early modern period. The focus will be primarily given on "the image of the other" by means of English literary sources (i.e. travel diaries, drama but also political pamphlets etc.). The selected topics will be discussed in a broad political, cultural, religious and economic context.
A student will be well informed about relations of England with other early modern states, get the good knowledge of selected topics such as travelling, theatre, the image of the other etc. A participant of this course will learn to analyse literary sources and gain the basic knowledge of foreign secondary literature related to this matter.
Prerequisites
A student´s knowledge of English language should be at intermediate level.
