Course content
The content of lectures is to acquaint students with basic knowledge of paleography, codicology, epigraphics and genealogy including basic handbooks and terminology. The attention will be given to the development of Latin scripts, manuscripts, typology of inscriptions and a presentation of genealogical results. Seminars focuse on teaching students to read and transcribe (transliterate) Latin text written in Caroline minuscule and (transcribe) a Czech text written in gothic scripts. Then, the attention will be given blazonry of shields, a description of manuscripts and inscriptions. HF

Learning outcomes
The aim of lectures is to acquaint students with basic knowledge of paleography, codicology, epigraphics and genealogy including basic handbooks and terminology. There will be selected primarily information, which students can use for art-historical research. Seminars focuse on teaching students to read and transcribe (transliterate) Latin text written in Caroline minuscule and (transcribe) a Czech text written in gothic scripts. Then, the attention will be given blazonry of shields, a description of manuscripts and inscriptions. HF
Students will gain knowledge of paleography, codicology, epigraphics and genealogy. In seminars, They will learn to read Caroline minuscule and Gothic scripts, know blazonry of shields, a description of manuscripts and inscriptions. HF

There are no special prerequisities. HF

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Active class participation. Credit requirements: passing a credit test = a transliteration of Latin text written in a Caroline minuscule, a transcription of a Czech text written in a Gothic script and a blazonry of a shield. HF
