1. Introduction to the overal conception and program of the course, exam requirements. What is oral history? What "make" a story? Oral history vs. research methods of contemporary history. The oldest and the youngest method. 2. History of oral history abroad and home. Organizationa and institutionalization on oral history. Overview of the most important oral history projects in the Czech republic. 3. Quantitative reseach method. Subjectivity vs. objectivity in historical knowledge. Democratization of history. So called small and big history. 4. Memory and oral history. 5. Family and personal memory, life story and identity. 6. Prof. Paedr. Mgr. Miroslav Vaněk, PhD. - discussion with "founding father" of Czech oral history. 7. Managing the interview - part 1 (Interview - life story. Differences and agreements. Place, questioner, narator). 8. Managing the intervies - part 2 (1st and 2nd interview, protocols, editation). 9. Analysis of oral history sources. 10. Interpretation of oral history sources. 11. Etics anf legislative. 12. Learning outcomes |
This course is meant for students interested in deeper knowledge of oral history methods and practical outcomes which were collected, analyzed and interpreted in the previous period. Main aim of the course is to introduce students to general theoretical principles of oral history, with the development of this method both home and abroad, connection of oral history to other methods of historical research of contemporary history and its interdisciplinary use in other humanist fields of study. Another aim of this course is to prepare students for realisation and processing of interviews, their analysis, interpretation and technical processing of of findings.
