Course content
The key topic is the relational database model. Practices take place in an environment of Microsoft Access database program. Is to practice creating tables, forms, sessions, queries, reports. There are also practiced SQL commands and modeling using CASE studio. Tasks are selected from different regions of geographic information systems (demography, geological database, the geomorphological, environmental database, hydrology). Outline: 1. Basic features of the database system, the concept of entity, attribute, attribute data types (field values) 2. Relationship, the cardinality of relationships, keys (candidate, primary, composite, foreign) 3. Integrity, referential integrity 4. Types of database models (network, hierarchical, relational), relational data model 5. ERA diagrams and conceptual model 6. Indexes, unary operations restrictions, and projections, questions, types of questions, normalization 7. Language SQL 8. Metadata and metadata systems, standards 9. Design of conceptual models of databases 10. ESRI geodatabase 11. Semestral project

Learning outcomes
Students are acquainted with the basic topics from the database technology during the lecture.
The course focuses on the acquisition of knowledge. Define key terms, describe the main approaches to demonstrate theoretical knowledge for solving problems.
Prerequisites
Application of knowledge from previous studies.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Seminar Work

The student has to prove the knowledge of the subject topics.
