Course content
This course will introduce students to selected topics in contemporary biblical scholarship. Standard topics in biblical theology form the core of the course. However, the course will include other topics in contemporary biblical studies, which may be varied according to the current team of national and international experts involved. Topics in Biblical Theology: - Election and covenant in the Old Testament. - Characteristics and exclusivity of the God of Israel. - So-called "salvation history", slavery and freedom, failure and forgiveness in the Old Testament. - The concept of "Law/Torah". - Worship, prayer and holiness in the Old Testament. - The image of God in the New Testament. - The elect, the people of God and the covenant in the New Testament. - The Kingdom of God in the New Testament. - Messiah - the witness of the New Testament. - Faith in the New Testament. Varia (for 2024/2025): - Biblical archaeology: trends and selected examples from contemporary fieldwork in Israel. - Selected texts from Genesis. - Septuagint.

Learning outcomes
Introduce students to the various approaches to the interpretation of Scripture by both domestic and international biblical scholars.
Orientation to key biblical themes. Ability to take a critical stance on various biblical interpretations.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

The student organizes his/her studies based on the study materials and instructions in the LMS; he/she participates in the online webinars. In order to receive credit, the student needs to participate in continuous discussions or tests after each lesson, as well as to actively participate in the final student online conference (presenting his/her own paper, participating in the discussion of other papers). Topics for papers in biblical theology are approved by the teacher.
