Course content
A brief recapitulation of the history of the interpretation of Scripture. Important milestones and personalities in the history of the interpretation of the Scripture. Major exegetical approaches, both diachronic and synchronic, to the interpretation of biblical texts applied to specific examples. Biblical theology and the probleme of its definition. Influential conceptions of biblical theology throughout history.

Learning outcomes
A comprehensive look at the relationship between biblical literature and tradition as it relates to its origins and subsequent interpretation. An overview of the main approaches to biblical interpretation, their strengths and limitations. A perception of the interpretation of Scripture as a process open to different methodological approaches.
Ability to detect the basic type of approach applied when encountering a particular interpretation of the biblical text (in literature, media space, etc.) Ability to take a sound critical stance towards specific, especially manipulative, biblical interpretations.
Prerequisites
Orientation in biblical literature (content, origin, historical background).

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

The student organizes his/her studies based on the study materials and instructions in the LMS; he/she participates in the online webinars and completes continuous short assignments or tests (approximately 6). A colloquium at the end of the semester tests whether the student is able to elaborate and discuss the assigned topic in the form of a paper (text/audio/video presentation). The topic is assigned by the teacher. It will be an analysis of a published scholarly biblical article in terms of the exegetical methods used.
