Course content
1. Ideological framework for the media system; normative media theory 2. The concept of public service media, financing public media, international comparisons; 3. Political pressure on the public service media in CR and Europe; control mechanisms; 4. The issue of regional media - state, structure, development; hyperlocal online media; 5. The globalization of the media as a global problem; oligopoly; 6. Effects of globalization in our country, the impact on programming, agenda; commodification of media; 7. Citizen journalism, media activism; guerilla journalism; 8. New (electronic) media;

Learning activities and teaching methods

Learning outcomes
Students will learn the basic concepts of journalistic theory, norms and concepts, such as the normative theories, public media theory, globalization or tabloidization.
Students will learn the basic concepts of journalistic theory, especially in creating media content (theory of gatekeeping, news values, agenda setting, media routines, and self-regulation of the media). Classes will be based on the orientation and examples from the Czech media practice

Passing the KBH/MEDG1 subject or its equivalent.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark, Oral exam

a mandatory subject (80 % attendance); a participation in an analytic group assignment; a test and an exam the use of mobile phones and active loging-in into social networks, uses of IM etc., will be interpreted as contradictory to the obligatory attendance, i.e. the student will be enlisted as "absentee" even if present
