Course content
1. transformation of the so-called journalistic field after 2000; general introduction; typology of media; media as an institution 2. typology/types of journalism, journalism funcitons and roles; specifics of Czech journalism 3. context of media - normative theory; social construction of reality; 4. meaning and role of media in history and present - evolution of media and development of its function 5. the path from information to news - news values, gatekeeping 6. the journey from news to agenda - agenda setting 7. research, investigation, sourcing (examples, principles, ideology, history) 8. objectivity as a key word in the media field, principle of information quality 9. digitisation of journalism and the transformation of basic practices (partly in reflection of the previous topics) 10. regulatory and self-regulatory mechanisms; 11. fake-news, AI and the future of journalism (media)

Learning outcomes
The seminar aims to introduce students to the basic theoretical and practical knowledge and procedures in following areas: - orientation in terminology and typology related to media and journalism - basic theories related to the creation and function of media - especially journalistic - content - description and analysis of the Czech media landscape - basic information on media regulatory systems - digitalization and the transformation of the journalistic field
Students will learn the basic concepts of journalistic theory, especially in creating media content (theory of gatekeeping, news values, agenda setting, media routines, and self-regulation of the media). Classes will be based on the orientation and examples from the Czech media practice.

Essay, Didactic Test, Questionnaire

A written assignment based on secondary literature; and a test; mandatory participation (80 %).
