Course content
1) What is a "literary" text and how can we communicate about it? 2) Understanding and interpretation 3) The author and authorial intent (případně: and their intent) 4) The role of authorial intent in interpretation 5) Intertextuality 6) The reader and the text 7) Deconstructive reading of a text 8) Contextual interpretations of a text 9) Feminist interpretation of a text 10) Postcolonial interpretation of a text 11) Interpretation and evaluation 12) The role of ideology in the interpretive process

Learning outcomes
Basic undestanding of the narratological thinking.
Basic understanding of the theory of text interpretation. Acquisition of the elementary concepts, and thinking about the prerequisites and objectives of the interpretation.
Prerequisites
Interest in the subject, general knowledge of the theory of literature.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

A written test (covering the topics of the lectures and the reference reading materials prescribed for the seminar) must be passed for the colloquium.
