The main aim of the course is to provide the students with an insight into space and time related distribution of extreme events in the Czech Republic with a special focus on Moravia and Silesia. A great emphasis is placed on the impacts of extreme events of the life and activities of people (agriculture, industry, transport). Extreme events do not usually occur independently but more events come at the same time. The course further deals with extreme events in the area of insurance and legislation. The course also focuses on extreme events in a global context. Information about this course was translated to English within the project Internationalization of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacký University, Olomouc, No. CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0028, co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Government of the Czech Republic.
Upon completion of the course the student should be capable of a comprehensive assessment of an extreme event in terms of the population, landscape and other possible extreme events or their combinations. The student should also be able to apply synthetic thinking in crisis situations and use the history of an affected location in case of a repeated extreme event. |
