Course content
Evolution of infectious disease, sepsis, septic shock. Central nervous system infections. HIV/AIDS. Infection in patients with immunodeficiency. Viral hepatitis, treatment and prevention. Vaccination and its options.Travel medicine and imported diseases. Zoonoses and parasitic diseases. Bacterial and viral diarrhoea. Herpetic infections and diseases with exanthema. Intensive care in infectious diseases. Nosocomial infections, infections among health care personnel.

Learning outcomes
The student is introduced to general symptoms of infectious diseases, development of infectious diseases including sepsis and septic shock. His/her knowledge about common or less frequent bacterial, parasitic and viral infections is extended. The student obtains basic knowledge about diagnostic, differential diagnostics and therapy of common as well as significant import diseases. The student is introduced to vaccination against infectious diseases and to other form of prevention. The student obtains knowledge about department of infectious diseases, their hygienic-epidemiological regimen and about principles of isolation of patients.
Student will be able to apply new obtained knowledge in diagnostic and therapy of common infectious diseases (e.g. respiratory diseases, diarrhoea, viral hepatitis, central nervous system infections, herpetic infection and diseases with exanthema), common import diseases and infections in patients with immunodeficiency (e.g. with organ transplantation or HIV infection). The student will be able to recommend vaccination against some infectious diseases, however also to use your knowledge to decrease the risk of nosocomial infections and infections of health care personnel.

Completion of course "Internal Medicine 2".
