Course content
|
Topics: 1) Introduction to English for radiography - essential terminology; responsibilities of a radiographer 2) Medical imaging - imaging modalities, patient preparation for diagnostic examinations 3) The radiology team - members of the team and their responsibilities 4) X-ray examination - X-ray room and equipment, the examination, patient communication, chest X-ray and chest pathologies 5) Mammography - the examination, types of breast imaging, patient communication 6) CT examination - equipment, the procedure, patient communication 7) Nuclear medicine - types of NM examinations (PET, SPECT, scintigraphy), patient communication - thyroid uptake scan This subject consists of 15 hours of in-class instruction and 39 hours of out-of-class study.

Learning outcomes
|
Students will expand their knowledge of healthcare terminology, improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English. They will establishing a baseline for further use of English in professional practice and in communication with patients, with focus on communication during imaging examinations.
Students will acquire a basic level of healthcare English necessary for their profession.

Prerequisites
|
Competence in English at least at the CEFR reference level B1.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Student performance, Analysis of linguistic, Written exam
Seminar attendance 80% and active participation in classes, completing assigned tasks. Written credit test. Final oral exam.
