Course content
|
Topics: 1) Introduction to English for radiography - essential terminology; responsibilities of a radiographer 2) Medical imaging - imaging modalities, patient preparation for diagnostic examinations, pronunciation focus 3) The radiology team - members of the team and their responsibilities 4) X-ray examination - X-ray room and equipment, the examination, patient communication, chest X-ray and chest pathologies 5) Mammography - the examination, types of breast imaging, patient communication 6) CT examination - equipment, the procedure, patient communication, prepositions 7) Nuclear medicine - types of NM examinations (PET, SPECT, scintigraphy), patient communication - thyroid uptake scan This subject consists of 15 hours of in-class instruction and 39 hours of out-of-class study.

Learning outcomes
|
Students will expand their knowledge of healthcare terminology, practice more advanced grammar points at an intermediate level and improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English. They will develop level of healthcare English necessary for their profession, with focus on communication with patietns during imaging examinations.
Students will acquire a basic level of healthcare English necessary for their profession.

Competence in English at least at the CEFR reference level B1 - pre-intermediate.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Mark, Written exam
Seminar attendance 80% and active participation in classes, completing assigned tasks. Written credit test. Final oral exam.
