Course content

1. Old Netherlandish Painting of 14th and 15th century: Melchior Broederlam, Master of Flémalle/Robert Campin, Rogier van der Weyden, brothers of Lumbourg, Dirk Bouts, Hans Memling, Petrus Christus, Hugo van der Goes, Hubert and Jan van Eyck. 2. Sculptures of Hans Multscher, Jakob Kaschauer and Master of Týn Calvary 3. Sculptures of Nicolaus Gerhaert of Leydenu and his followers (Hans Kamensetzer, Nikolaus von Hagenau, Hans Hammer, Michael Pacher, Martin Krichebaum) 4. Sculptures of Veit Stoss 5. Cental - European Late Gothic Architecture (Hans Krumenauer, Hans von Burghausen, Madern Gerthener, Moyses z Altenburka, Hans Puchspaum, Laurenz Spenning). 6. Architecture of Benedikt Ried 7. Early Renaissance Art in Tovačov and Moravská Třebová in Central-European Context 8. Austrian Late Gothic Painting (Master of Albrecht´s Altar, Master of Votiv Panel of St. Lambrecht etc.) 9. German Late Gothic and early Renaissance Painting (Mistr Bertram, Conrad von Soest etc.)

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the chosen chapters of Central-European art between 1350-1550. In the lectures the focus is put on the development of painting in Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Burgund. Next the emhpasis is put on artworks of the most important late Gothic sculptors in Central Europe, architecture of Benedikt Ried and early Renaissance art in Tovačov and Moravská Třebová.
Basic knowledge of the development of Central European painting between 1350-1550 and development of the Burgundian art of the 14th and the 15 century.

Subject is designated for students of Bachelor study of History of Fine Arts.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance
Oral report (with visual presentation) on a selected topic in the range of about 20 minutes, handing in of written form of report with list of appropriate literature (max. 2 standard pages).
