Learning outcomes
This course will give you a more coherent and in-depth understanding of the Japanese language. You will learn to think about Japanese as a language and about the various linguistic phenomena you commonly encounter in Japanese within their broader context; you will know how to describe and explain these phenomena. You will become more aware of the specific features of Japanese (especially in comparison to Czech and English). You will gain a basic understanding of Japanese at various levels of linguistic description and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to continue your study and exploration of the Japanese language. Understanding Japanese at a theoretical level will also help you in your practical language studies or, for example, if you decide to teach Japanese in the future.
Upon completion of the course, students have a broader and more solid theoretical knowledge and understanding of modern Japanese as a language, and have proven their ability to think and write about linguistic phenomena by writing a report.
