Learning outcomes
The course provides students with deeper and more detailed outlook on the Japanese language (often making use of comparison with Czech and English). The language is discussed on all key levels of language description, including phonetics, phonology, lexicology, morphology, syntax, pragmatics, and sociolinguistics. Students also work on projects dealing with topics of their choice throughout the whole semestre. Thereby they not only learn how to approach a linguistic research question, but also develop various transferable skills.
Upon completion of the course, students have a broader and more solid theoretical knowledge of Japanese as a language, better understanding of the structure of modern Japanese, and have proven their ability to think and write about linguistic phenomena by writing a report.
Prerequisites
The course is offered for Japanese majors of the B.A. study program. It is expected that the students have certain knowledge of Japanese and basic linguistic terminology.
