Course content
|
Anatomy, physiology and pathology (inflammations, tumors, developmental anomalies, injuries) of the ear, diagnostics and therapy in otology. Principles of the middle ear surgery. Audiology: introduction in the acoustics, basic auditory tests, audiometry, differential diagnosis of the hearing loss. Anatomy, physiology and pathology (inflammations, tumors, developmental anomalies, injuries) of the nose, nasopharynx and paranasal sinuses, clinical examination, principles of the functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Anatomy, physiologiy and pathology (inflammations, tumors, developmental anomalies, injuries) of the larynx, clinical examinations, principles of microsurgery and oncologic surgery, block-neck dissections. Anatomy, physiologiy and pathology (inflammations, tumors, developmental anomalies, injuries) of the pharyng, clinical examinations, adenotomy, tonsillectomy, diseases of the parapharyngeal and retropharyngeal space. Pediatric otorhinolaryngology. Diseases of salivary glands and the thyroid, diagnostics and therapy, parotidectomy. Urgent and life-threating situations in otorhinolaryngology, laryngotracheal and oesophageal foreign bodies, endoscopy, tracheostomy. Practical demonstration and training of clinical examination.

Learning outcomes
|
The students will acquire complex knowledge in the symptomatology, diagnostics and therapy of all diseases and injuries in the field of otorhinolaryngology.
With the education finished, the students will be capable of applying the gained skills in the diagnostics and therapy of all ORL affections, namely at the level, neccessary for general practitioners. They will be familiar with the borders and facilities of the otorhinolaryngology, as well as with the indications for ORL consultation services. In addition, the students will be capable of giving first aid treatment in ORL life-threatening conditions.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam
90% active attendance at seminars and practice. The examination covering 3 theoretical questions plus practical management of at least one clinical scenario.
