Course content |
Post-war Europe. Key issues for better understanding of political system development. Sovietisation of the Central and Eastern Europe. Development of the Western democratic countries (France, UK, Italy, Germany). Authoritarian regimes in Southern Europe (Spain, Portugal, Greece). Development of regimes under the rule of the Soviet Union (Poland, Yugoslavia, Hungary).

Learning outcomes |
Course presents the development of political systems in post-war Europe. The course focuses on the re/ construction of post-war democratic systems in Western Europe (Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany), the development and the fall of authoritarian regimes of Southern Europe (Spain, Portugal and Greece), as well as the different stages of development of countries under the control of the USSR. Interpretation does not emphasize political history of the single country, but the observed phenomena and key terms are selected for understanding the nature of structural foundations of the systems.
Ability to analyse the processes of creation and development of different types of regimes in post-war Europe. Application of political theory and methods for further studies. Ability of critical reading of advanced academic literature in Czech and English. |

Mark, Written exam, Seminar Work
Compulsory participation in seminars (2 absences at max.). Active participation in the seminar discussions (passive approach is treated as absence). Comprehensive knowledge of assigned readings for seminars seminar paper. |
