Programme of the lectures: 1. British policy in the mandate of Palestine, Zionist ideology, diversification of the Zionist movement, Arab nationalism; 2. Situation in the Middle East after 1945, proclamation of the State of Izrael and first Israeli-Arab war; 3. Six-Day war, Yom Kippu War and its consequences; 4. Camp David Accords; 5. Israeli invasion to Lebanon, causes and consequences of the First Intifada; 6. Middle East peace process in 1990s, the Oslo Accords; 7. ?Oslo II? and weakening of the peace process in late 1990s; 8. Second Intifada; 9. Contemporary situation, perspectives. Seminar topics: 1. Political and party system of Izrael; 2. Jewish settlements in occupied territories; 3. Role of the USA in the conflict and peace process; 4. Palestinian refugee camp; 5. Role of the EU in the conflict and peace process; 6. Palestinian and Israeli terrorist organizations; 7. Living conditions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank ? comparison; 8. Fragmentation of Israeli society; 9. Role of orthodox religious parties in Israeli political system; 10. Water ? the ?blue gold? of Middle East.

The objective of this course is to acquaint students with the roots, course, character and participants of the Israeli-Palestinian (Middle East) conflict. The course will deal with the issues of history, ethnicity, identity, religion and ideologies within the frame of the conflict. Lectures and seminar discussions will further focus on the Middle East peace process, applied conflict resolution methods, and its strengths and weaknesses. The main aim of this course is to develop deeper understanding of the topic as well as a critical approach to it, based on lectures, discussions and readings.
Orientation in the issues surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, understanding of its character, actors, dimensions and applied conflict resolution methods of one of the most severe and most closely observed contemporary ethnonationalist conflicts with significant international dimension. Ability to objectively and critically evaluate the nature and course of the conflict and applicability of conflict resolution methods in this case. The course can serve as a starting point for students wishing to study the Middle East issues, islamic terrorism or conflict resolution methods more deeply .
