Course content
|
Themes: the constitutional basis of law for the environment and its protection. The Nature and Landscape Protection Act (General and specialist nature protection, nature protection authorities, responsibilities and violations). CITES legal form and problems. compensation for damage and harm. Natura 2000.

Learning outcomes
|
To introduce students to the system of Czech, European Union, and international nature conservation law and to teach them to use legal rules when addressing situations encountered in biological research, conservation practice, and the assessment of interventions affecting nature and landscape.
The student navigates the hierarchy and current wording of legal rules, distinguishes between general and special nature protection, and identifies the competent nature conservation authority. For a model project, the student recognizes the need for consent, a permit, an exemption, or a binding opinion; explains the fundamentals of administrative procedure and public participation; and assesses the legal conditions governing field research, sampling, and the handling of protected species.

Prerequisites
|
Basic knowledge of ecology, zoology, and nature conservation at Bachelor's level. No previous legal education is required.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam
Continuous work with the current wording of legislation and active participation in case-study exercises. The course is completed by an oral examination in which the student demonstrates knowledge of the principal legal instruments and the ability to apply them to a specific biological or conservation situation.
