Course content
|
The course introduces students to the evolution, origin, phylogeny, and systematics of the major groups of mammals. Particular attention is given to reproductive biology, mating systems, physiological adaptations (including hibernation and echolocation), ecology, biogeography, and mammal conservation. The course also provides an overview of the mammals of the Czech Republic, with an emphasis on their identification, biology, and ecology. The practical component focuses on the identification of small mammals based on external morphological characteristics and introduces students to the basic methods used in mammal research and monitoring.

Learning outcomes
|
To provide students with an overview of the anatomy, evolution, phylogeny, systematics, and ecology of mammals, focusing on the biology and diversity of the major mammalian groups found in the Czech Republic.
After the course the students should be able to: -describe mammalian anatomy and morphology -know the systematics and phylogeny of main mammal groups -explain typical mammalian physiological and ecological adaptations -describe main mammal families based on their morphological and ecological features - idenfity to species level a representative sample of Czech mammals
