Course content
|
The basic of bird field identification using bird's appearance, behavior, and sounds; ageing and sexing of birds; identification of subspecies; moult in birds. The essentials of ornithological methodolog: trapping and ringing, types of ringing (the use of metal rings, colour rings, wing-tags, telemetry); modern methods or ornithological research (the use of data loggers and digital video-recorders).

Learning outcomes
|
To learn bird identification in the field and basic methods of ornithological field research.
Student should be able to (after attending the course): - Identify birds in the field using various characteristics. - Apply methods of ornithological research in the field.

Prerequisites
|
The course is appropriate for all students interested in field ornithology - from beginners to advanced ornithologists.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance
Participating in at least three field excursions, appropriate skills in bird field identification and elementary knowledge of ornithological methodology. Equipment: binoculars (preferably 10x50), hiking boots, rainproof windbreaker, pocket money to cover the costs of traveling expenses, lodging fee, and allowance.
