Course content
Advanced qualitative and basic quantitative survey methods; standardization of effort and data recording; identification of more difficult groups; comparison of aquatic and terrestrial communities; bioindication and evidence of anthropogenic impact; use of vocalizations, tracks, and other indirect evidence; protected species and the legal and ethical aspects of field research; basic evaluation and presentation of results.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Observation, Demonstration
Learning outcomes
To build on Field Course in Zoology 1 and develop students' ability to select suitable survey methods, identify animals more accurately, and interpret ecological differences among communities and habitats.
The student independently selects and applies an appropriate survey method, produces standardized field records, and uses identification keys to determine selected taxa. The student compares the species composition of habitats, explains its principal ecological determinants, and critically evaluates the limitations of the resulting data.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of Field Course in Zoology 1 (ZOO/EXBE1) and corresponding knowledge of zoology and ecology.
ZOO/EXBE1

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Active participation throughout the course, independent completion of assigned tasks, accurate field records, and successful identification of selected taxa or presentation and defence of a completed field assignment.
