Course content
|
Introduction to fieldwork and safety; terrestrial and aquatic habitats; direct observation and basic qualitative sampling; use of sweep nets, sieves, beating trays, and hydrobiological nets; observation and identification of invertebrates and vertebrates; species-habitat relationships; protected and threatened species; georeferencing, photographic documentation, and field notes.

Learning outcomes
|
To apply fundamental zoological knowledge in the field and to teach students to observe, document, sample with minimal impact, and provisionally identify common Central European animals in major habitat types while working safely and responsibly.
The student uses basic observation and sampling equipment, keeps field records, identifies common taxa, and associates them with typical habitats. The student follows the principles of field safety, nature conservation, biosecurity, and humane handling of organisms.

Prerequisites
|
Basic knowledge of the systematics, anatomy, morphology, and ecology of invertebrates and vertebrates; physical capacity for fieldwork.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam
Active participation throughout the course, compliance with safety and conservation rules, properly maintained field records, and demonstration of basic competence in diagnostic characters through an identification test or practical task.
