Course content
The outline, important terms and general principles. Contents of applied zoology. Plant protection: history of plant protection, integrated plant protection, prognosis, method of summation of effective temperatures, signalization. Means of pest control - physical, chemical and biological, groups of insecticides, resistance, methods of determination of resistance. Biological agents of pest control. Requirements on bioagents. Comparison between chemical and biological plant protection, methods of biological protection. Particular techniques of biological control. Pest control by characteristics of host organism. Protective management in farming technology. Use of pheromones in plant protection. Organic, biological agriculture. Systematic overview of pests in fields, gardens, stored products and food factories, incl. recognition of major species. Forest pests. Main factors of malignance. Species of veterinary and medical importance. Systematic overview of forest pests and species of veterinary and medical importance, incl. recognition of major species. Economic pests in vertebrates. Use of vertebrates in integrated pest control.

Oral or written examination - 3 questions: 1. general principle of plant protection 2. agricultural pests, practical identification, systematics and characteristics of induced damages. 3. Veterinary pests
