Learning outcomes
The course will introduce students to the basics of environmental studies, specifically issues related to the human environment. Participants will acquire theoretical knowledge concerning natural and anthropogenic influences on the environment, the development of environmental protection, and the long-term sustainable use of ecosystems. The topics covered will include both the non-living components of the environment and their influence by humans ? the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and pedosphere - as well as its organic or ecosystem components, with a special focus on biodiversity loss. The current debate on the onset of the Anthropocene will also be outlined. From the perspective of human society, some current challenges will be discussed, such as global population trends, human settlements, natural raw materials and energy resources, and the uneven distribution of wealth between countries, but also within countries. After completing the Introduction to the Environment course, students will have a basic overview of key environmental issues, enabling them to make better and more informed decisions in situations that require an understanding of the natural and social phenomena and processes underlying ongoing environmental change.
1. After completing the course, students will be better prepared for some of the follow-up subjects in the "Law and Sustainability" study program, wherever an understanding of the scientific dimension of environmental problems and their selected social contexts (political, economic, social, etc.) is required. 2. After completing the course, students will be able to identify the individual components of the environment and the basic natural and anthropogenic factors that affect the quality of these components. 3. They will be able to identify natural phenomena and processes that influence or determine strategies for solving environmental problems (e.g., in the form of SDGs). 4. After completing the course, students will gain awareness of the consequences of natural and anthropogenic influences on the human environment and will be able to identify and study the interrelationships and connections between these factors and components of the environment. 5. After completing the course, students will be able to understand environmental problems from an anthropocene perspective.
