Learning outcomes
The Environmental Law Clinic is a key practical subject in the bachelor's degree program in Law and Sustainability, which allows students to apply, develop, and interconnect the knowledge they have acquired during their studies in the fields of environmental law, constitutional law, administrative law, and other related disciplines. The course is based on the policy clinic methodology, i.e., clinical legal education focused not on helping specific individual clients, but on strategic initiatives driven by efforts to change public policies or legal regulations with the potential to help hundreds or thousands of affected individuals. Under the expert supervision of teachers and collaborating practitioners, students select appropriate real-life environmental disputes or strategic issues, which they analyze and prepare legal opinions or other appropriate documents. An important goal is to promote the enforcement of environmental rights under the Aarhus Convention and to overcome widespread stereotypes about environmental protection and environmental activists or associations. Emphasis is placed on the development of practical skills, ethical reasoning, critical thinking, and the ability to apply the principles of sustainable development in legal practice.
After completing the course, students will be able to: 1. Apply theoretical knowledge of environmental law in solving specific practical cases and formulate qualified legal conclusions in the field of environmental protection. (SDG 16: Peace, justice, and strong institutions; SDG 4: Quality education) 2. Independently search for, analyze, and interpret legal regulations, case law, and other relevant documents for the purposes of legal analysis of environmental issues. (SDG 4; SDG 16) 3. Exercise the right to access information, public participation, and access to environmental justice under the Aarhus Convention and related Czech legislation (SDG 16; SDG 13: Climate action). 4. Prepare high-quality legal documents (applications, appeals, opinions) for proceedings in the field of environmental protection. (SDG 16; SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities) 5. When applying the legal framework, identify and implement solutions that promote sustainability in the public and private sectors. (SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth)
