Learning outcomes
The objective of the discipline is to provide a comprehensive overview of the issue of organization of speech-language therapy in the Czech Republic and abroad in the context of previous and contemporary scientific and research findings concerning its quality, effectiveness, multidisciplinary relationships, and a shift in the focus of relevant research to include education of persons with disrupted communication ability or its specifics, diagnostics, and intervention (including the prevention of disrupted communication ability of all levels). The discipline includes a description and comparison of the system of study of speech-language pathology (undergraduate as well as postgraduate preparation of speech-language therapists) in the Czech Republic and abroad, including the involvement of professional organizations of speech-language therapists and minimum requirements for speech-language pathology undergraduate and postgraduate education in the Czech Republic and EU, specifics of speech-language therapy in the context of various departments (especially education, healthcare and social work), legislation governing the organization of speech-language therapy, development and current state of institutional care for persons with disrupted communication ability, position of speech-language therapists in the system of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary cooperation, and the significance of interdisciplinary communication, coordination and cooperation. The discipline also covers an overview of the history of the field with an emphasis on the application of previous results of scientific research in the area of speech-language pathology and related sciences in the current speech-language therapy concepts and approaches, relationship with philosophy, rhetoric, religion, medicine, organization of care for individuals with hearing impairment, development of medical disciplines and educational systems, origination of phoniatry, speech-language pathology and phoniatric associations, development of psychological disciplines, and development of projection devices and instrumentation. Special attention will be paid to the specifics of individual components of comprehensive speech-language intervention, general methods and means of speech-language intervention in relation to counselling - relationship with therapeutic, clinical, and educational methods, relationship with special education counselling, critical analysis of directive and non-directive approaches in speech-language counselling, scope of counselling in speech-language therapy. Focus is on the basic ethical aspects of speech-language therapy, emancipation trends in speech-language therapy, organization of speech-language therapy and counselling to include individuals with disrupted communication ability in early, preschool and school age, adolescence and adulthood, and hospitalized patients, classification of disrupted communication ability in the context of WHO systems DSM IV and ICD 10, basic methods and means, forms of raising awareness about speech-language therapy, or modern approaches to raising awareness about speech-language therapy and counselling - teleeducation, telepractice.
