The Child as a dental patient. Child psychology. Maturity and learning. Personality traits. Enviromental influence. Fear and anxiety. Acceptance of dental treatment. Guidelines. Pain. Definition of pain. Theories of pain. Perception: Why and how it is experienced. Emotional elements of pain perception children and pain. Behavioral management techniques. Short-and long-term technigues assessment of behavior management. Pain and anxiety control. Nitrous oxigen inhalation conscious sedation and deep sedation. Premedication. Local anesthesia. General anesthesia.

Learning outcomes
|
Students understand the problems of communication with children. The influence of the age, intellect and somatic health of children is respected. Students know how to urge non-cooperating children by rational procedures and methods.
Application of psychological knowledge and control for calming the patient, for creation of the ambience of reliance and of active compliance in scope of standard dental care.
