Content (themes): 1. Introduction. Regulatory and institutional framework for financial institutions 2. Overview of entities providing financial services and basic requirements for their activities - part one (banks, payment institutions, insurance companies and insurance intermediaries) 3. Overview of entities providing financial services and basic requirements for their activities - part two (investment companies and investment funds, pension companies and pension funds) 4. Overview of entities providing financial services and basic requirements for their activities - part three (securities traders, investment intermediaries and exchanges) 5. Specifics of business of financial institutions (general public law regulation of business vs. CNB license, regulation of advertising, AML and consumer protection) 6. Specifics of contracts for financial services (including dispute resolution) 7. Legal aspects of provision of individual financial services (products) - part one (banking and payment services, especially account and means of payment) 8. Legal aspects of providing individual financial services (products) - part two (continuation of discussion on banking and payment services, in particular credit) 9. Legal aspects of providing individual financial services (products) - part three (insurance and pension-related services) 10. Legal aspects of providing individual financial services (products) - part four (investment services and trades on market in financial instruments, currency exchange services)

Learning outcomes |
Introduce students to comprehensive legal framework concerning the activities of financial institutions in the Czech Republic. Attention will be paid both to the general conditions of operation of individual business corporations operating in the financial market (ie financial institutions) and to the specific financial services (or products) provided by such financial institutions to their customers.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will: " be aware of the reasons why the financial services industry is so heavily regulated and understand the high timeliness and importance of this topic; " be familiar with the framework structure of financial regulation and understand its basic principles, common to all sectors, which will help them understand the meaning of the provisions of individual regulatory provisions which are often not very clearly written; " acquainted with the specifics of business corporations operating on financial markets as opposed to "ordinary" business corporations and with the basic legal context related to the provision of financial services; and " equipped with knowledge that will increase their own financial literacy and raise awareness of the functioning of the financial market in the Czech Republic. |
