Course content
|
Definition and classification of diabetes and glucose tolerance disorders. Classification of diabetes in pregnancy. Aetiopathogenesis and incidence of various types of diabetes. OGTT diagnostics. Influence of pregnancy on diabetes. The role of obstetrician and diabetologist in care of pregnant diabetics. Newborn care. Particularities of the nursing process in pregnant diabetics. Selfmonitoring. Nutrition, physical activity and diabetes. Insulin and insulin analogies treatment. Check-ups of insulin compensation. Diagnostics and treatment of acute complications of diabetes. Diagnostics and treatment of late complications of diabetes. Nursing process.

Learning outcomes
|
Basic orientation in diabetology is provided; students are introduced to the nursing process in diabetic patients and to modern approaches in programmed treatment of diabetic patients.
Students will know: basic issues of diagnostics and treatment of diabetes and its complications; issues of the care of diabetic patients in hospital and extra institutional practice.
