Course content
Ego psychology. Anna Freud and her conception of the mechanisms of defence. Heinz Hartmann, Ernst Kris and Erik Erikson. British school of object relations. Melanie Klein, Wilfred Bion. Another representatives of the British school: Donald Winnicott, Ronald Fairbairn, Michael Balint, John Bowlby John Bowlby?s theory of attachment, Mary Ainsworth. The American object relations school. Developmental theory of Edith Jacobson and Margaret Mahler. Otto Kernberg and his structural diagnosis of borderline personalities Heinz Kohut?s self psychology Basic principles of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Learning outcomes
Presentation of the main streams of post-Freudian psychoanalysis which influenced contemporary developmental theories and psychotherapeutic methods.
Deeper understanding of post-Freudian psychoanalysis based on the study of primary sources.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Seminar Work

Active participation in class, review of the psychoanalytic book, completion of the final test (70% = passing).
