Substitute family care (SFC), legislative framework 5. Specifics of biological and psychological parenting 6. Long-term foster care 7. Short-term foster care, early foster care 8. Functionality and resilience of foster families, difficulties and risks 9. Current data, actual events and trends 10.Professional psychological services for foster families, the role of NGO in SFC 11. Selected issues: babyboxes, deliveries of anonymous mothers etc.

Learning outcomes
|
Psychology in substitute family care is a specific application field of family psychology and child clinical psychology. The goal: become knowledgeable about psychological, legal, social and other aspects of substitute parenthood. The necessity of a proper psychological assessment of applicants for substitute family care is stressed, as well as detailed preparation courses and continual psychological care given to foster families. Special attention is paid to examples of good praxis, research findings and actual trends in this area. We will mention also the problem of medialization of this area (especially in relation to institutional care for children) and we will discuss a new form of foster care, so called short-term foster care. Students can see video programs from foster families.
Good orientation in the system of substitute family care, knowledge of the psychological aspects of substitute family care, sensitivity to the satisfaction of children's psychic needs.
