In this discipline students learn the basics of the qualitative approach in human science, philosophical roots of this approach and differences from the quantitative approach. They will also be introduced to the problem of non-probabilistic selections, the most widely used qualitative designs (case studies, evaluation, content analysis, grounded theory etc.), qualitative methods for collecting and creating of data (interview, focus group, observation, etc.) and qualitative-oriented researcher's position in relation to the concept of validity. Philosophical roots of a qualitative approach - historical development Application possibilities of a qualitative research Basic characteristics of a qualitative research Preparation of a research project Non-probabilistic sampling methods Methods of data collection (interview, observation, focus group, estimates, analysis of documents) Complex qualitative research designs Procedures for analysis and interpretation of data grounded theory, narrative approach, IPA in practice Techniques for increasing the validity of qualitative findings Criteria for assessing the quality of qualitative studies
Knowledge after the seminar: The student is well informed in basic terms, definitions of qualitative research and its discourse. The student understands and is oriented in qualitative design and basic qualitative methods. The student is well informed in the methods of respondent selection for qualitatively oriented research. Skills after the seminar: The student understands and uses basic qualitative meotdy of data collection. Students independently process and analyze qualitative data. The student carries out basic simple qualitatively oriented research.

Type A course concluded with an exam consisting of: A) test (30 questions/60 points); questions of various forms; correct (complete) answer = 2 points; wrong (incomplete) answer = 0 points; B) seminar work 1) 5-8 standard pages (without literature and introductory page); 2) extract from a foreign research qualitatively oriented research/project (max. mixed design); 3) formal requirements (environmental friendliness): double-sided printing; stapled and without euro folder; 4) evaluation: max. 40 points; in the case of poor graphic and content form, reduction of points or the obligation to complete or rework the seminar work; 5) submitted no later than 3/11/2024 (in printed form in a mailbox or by hand, the date of the postmark also applies); not accepting late submission; a table file created on google doc for writing names and titles; projects (seminar work) may not coincide; that is, each student's research is different 6) without the use of artificial intelligence, GPT and other programs. C) 100% participation in two lecture blocks, which will be: 11/10/2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m 15/11/2024 from 13:00 to 16:15 credit test 13/12/2024 from 9:00 a.m.; test for about 25 minutes; two groups; exam first date 13/12/2024 from 10:00 a.m exam second term 10/1/2025 from 8:00 a.m examination third commission date 17/1/2025 from 8:00 a.m Assessment (sum of points from the test and seminar paper): A = min. 95 points B = min. 90 points C = min. 85 points D = min. 80 points E = min. 70 points F = min. 69 points

Students will study the compulsory literature and ppt presentation of lectures. The course will end with a final graded examination in a form of written test that will verify both the knowledge and practical skills gained in subject. Literature: Povinná: Hendl, J. (2005).
