Course content
|
1) Introduction to Psycholinguistics Methodological principles, history and stages of development of psycholinguistics, main theories 2) Neuropsychology/Neurolinguistics Structure and function of neurons and the brain, relationship between the mind, brain, and language, neural basis of language, memory, emotion, and inner speech. 3) Language and Speech Disorders Etiology and manifestations at different language levels, types of disorders based on the place of disruption, language and speech disorders associated with other disorders, specific types of disorders, therapy for disorders, issues with hearing, writing, and reading. 4) Development of Speech from Childhood to Old Age Historical and contemporary conceptions of language acquisition, developmental stages and characteristics, critical periods and deviations in development, gender differences in language use, the influence of media on language and speech development, language changes in old age. 5) Methods/Techniques of Psycholinguistics Investigative methods (functional and structural), test batteries, significant experiments, experimental methods, artificial intelligence in psycholinguistics, large language models (LLMs)

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to basic and contemporary psycholinguistic concepts, problems, and challenges. The course will cover the processes of language acquisition, the neurological basis of language and speech functioning, as well as the cultural and other specific factors manifested in language.
Students are introduced to the basic topics, theories, and concepts of contemporary experimental psycholinguistics. They gain an understanding of experimental design principles, as well as the fundamentals of neurolinguistics and other interdisciplinary linguistic fields. Students are also able to analyze and critically evaluate scientific work.
