Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the relationship between gender and psychopathology from biological, clinical, and psychological perspectives. It provides a cross-sectional analysis of the impact of gender on the prevalence, diagnostic processes, symptomatology, and treatment. Particular attention is devoted to gender-related biases in diagnostic classification systems, gender differences in the clinical presentation of mental disorders, and current debates in clinical practice and research. Specific topics include attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorders, personality disorders, nonorganic sleep disorders, eating disorders, affective disorders, dementias, schizophrenia, and risk-taking behaviours
Students are introduced to the basic topics, theories, and concepts of gender psychopathology. They become familiar with current research approaches and are able to connect this knowledge to other disciplines.
