Course content
This presentation aims to highlight artificial intelligence in view of psychology, i.e. how psychology may respond to its challenges, evaluate pros and cons and support the construction of a fully functional AI system

Learning outcomes
Students will acquire professional knowledge and information on the topic. Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Velko Naumov, Ph.D. Electronics engineer; asst./senior assistant; assoc. prof. - lecturer at TU-Varna Scientific competencies: Automation, Fuzzy control systems, Computer organization, Machine vision, Robotics; Programmable Logic Controllers; Expert systems; Expert evaluations of thermal state of industrial objects, using Infrared technology. Author of more than 60 publications for the time period 1998 - 2017, published in Germany, Russia, Hungary, USA , Bulgaria; Author of 6 Textbooks in English in the area of marine Navigation and Engineering in cooperation with MarineSoft AG, Warnemuende, accredited by the German Llyod, approved by IMO, targeting Schools and Colleges in Asia and the Far East; Co- author of textbooks and manuals in Bulgarian in the area of Automation, Reliability and Diagnostics. Abstrakt: This presentation aims to highlight artificial intelligence in view of psychology, i.e. how psychology may respond to its challenges, evaluate pros and cons and support the construction of a fully functional AI system The presentation distinct parts are: 1. Historical aspects of AI: - Role of philosophers, mathematicians, scientists, inventors etc. - Different views and realisations. 2. Definitions for AI. 3. The role of psychology in AI. Expectations from intelligent machines. Types of intelligence. 4. AI systems: - software and hardware - Artificial neural networks - Fuzzy logic and fuzzy systems - Robotics 5. Other fields, linked to AI systems: - Object recognition - Shape recognition - Machine learning - Neurotechnology - Bi-directional Brain-Computer interface 6. Areas of psychology, having the leading role: - Interaction of humans with AI systems and the psychological impact on them (humans) - Input/creation of emotions in AI systems - Evaluation of the mental health of AI systems and human beings, interacting with them Topics for discussion: - Can we define the computer as an extension of the human mind? - Is an AI system going to replace "real" human intelligence and develop its own consciousness? - Is AI going to replace us in our work, in social relations and relationships? - Is AI going to take over mankind and eventually rule the world?
