Course content
Basic general neurology. History and neurological examination. Basic clinical examination methods, EEG, EMG, sonography, CSF analysis, examination of cortical defects, neuroimaging (CT, MRI, PET, SPECT). Cerebrovascular diseases, basic clinical symptomatology and care for hospitalized patients - introduction to the nursing process in neurological patients. Epilepsy - type of seizures, diagnosis, therapy and patient care. Craniocerebral trauma, first aid, disorders of consciousness, diagnosis and therapy. Infectious diseases of the brain and meninges. Demyelinating diseases of the CNS. Vertebrogenic, muscular and degenerative diseases. The nursing process in severe neurological diseases, especially in patients with disorders of consciousness and severely impaired motor functions.

Learning outcomes
The subject deals with the basic current issues in neurology and the nursing process and nursing care applied to neurological patients.
The students learn about the structure, basic functions, structural and funtional affections of the central and peripheral nervous systems. After graduation students will be able to implement the acquired knowledge in the nursing process.
